A Letter of Observation 5/18/12
Caring, Concerned, Encouraging, Helpful, Thoughtful. If I had to think of some adjectives to describe Imagine Academy of Columbus, these would be some that I would use. My son Bryson is a kindergarten transplant who came to Imagine in January 2012. After having a not so good experience at another school, me and my husband were at wits end trying to determine where he was going to attend school. While on Christmas break, after calling several schools and looking at their academic curriculum, location and after school programs, we decided on Imagine Columbus. Sometimes change isn't easy and you do encounter a few bumps along the way. Well, Bryson was no different, after a little bit of a rocky start and several conversations with his kindergarten teacher Ms. Laura Brehm, the dean of students; Mr. David Lama I was beginning to think we were headed down the same rocky road. But me and my husband saw something different here at Imagine. Instead of pointing out the wrongs Bryson was doing and finding the ultimate punishment for him, the staff began to ask what things have worked in the past for him and we began to find resolutions that helped and encouraged Bryson to become a better behaved student all around. I don't have enough time or space to detail how much I appreciate Imagine Academy. Bryson is excited to get to school, he likes the new friends he has made and he is not afraid of the staff, and tries to put forth his best effort everyday to abide by the rules and policies that Imagine Academy Columbus has set forth. I appreciate that Mr. David Lama cares for his students and wants them to be successful academically, socially and behave accordingly. I sincerely thank and appreciate him for taking Bryson 'under his wing' and working with him to achieve the 360 degree turnaround that he has made at his short time at Imagine. Bryson even has won several awards, which include: The Imagine Award, Certificate for Most Improved and Star Student Award. His smiles after he showed us these awards let me and my husband know that we made the right choice in choosing Imagine Academy of Columbus. Ms. Laura Brehm is such a flexible teacher and works to tailor an individual plan for each student, based on their strengths and weaknesses to improve them all around as well. If I have any questions I have her cell number, email and can make an appointment to see her. I have even 'popped in' on the class to see how Bryson functions during the day, boy was he surprised! Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Goodrich, staff, everyone I have encountered have let me know that Bryson is really trying hard and doing so well. It is encouraging that different staff members don't have a problem with sharing good news with parents. The staff is always pleasant and extremely helpful. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the before and aftercare staff of Mee Maw's; Mrs. Bridges, Coach Nelson, Ms. Elyse and the various helpers. These workers see the kids before, after school and during the day, and there have been many times Coach Nelson has had one on one mini interventions with Bryson to keep him on the straight path. We are excited to see what next school year will bring with Bryson at Imagine Academy of Columbus. With so many school choices in the city, it is hard to decipher what is the best option for your child. Me and my husband are convinced that we've found the perfect match.
